To our Members,
We know the recent outages in the Corona area over the past several days have been frustrating and disruptive.
The outages began with a failed switch at Tri-State’s Torrance Substation serving our system after a snake contacted equipment, resulting in the failure of multiple critical components that are not typically kept in stock. Subsequent lightning strikes then damaged temporary equipment on both the Tri-State and CNMEC systems, leading to additional service interruptions.
Because replacement equipment takes time to source, we immediately began working with our vendors to secure permanent replacement equipment. At the same time, CNMEC and Tri-State coordinated the mobilization of a mobile substation to bypass the damaged equipment and improve reliability while permanent repairs are completed.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued trust in Central New Mexico Electric Cooperative. We appreciate the support of our members as crews worked through these challenges safely and as quickly as possible. We remain committed to providing safe, reliable service and continuously improving planning and budgeting to better serve our communities.
